Overview:
Con-way, a well-respected leader in the transportation industry is looking for a Project Manager who will be responsible for managingcomplex IT projects to ensure the successful implementation of technology solutions in support of Con-way business objectives. This person serves as the project''s primary point of contact between IT, business operations, internal business partners, vendors and external clients. This person also manages and is accountable for the project scope, schedule, budget, quality, communication, risk management, and issue management.
Responsibilities:
Serves as central communications link to all project stakeholders by providing timely generation and distribution of project information.
Explains technical project solution design and associated labor estimates and project schedules to business partners and the client or stakeholders.
Ensures integration of all elements of a project, including hardware, software, and network components, are properly managed.
Ensures project includes all the work required to complete the project successfully. Project Scope Management consists of scope planning, scope definition, scope verification, and scope change control.
Ensures projects satisfy the agreed-upon requirements, including quality planning, quality assurance and quality control.
Identify project risks and issues; determine severity/probability and determine strategies for dealing with risks. Monitor progress of issue resolution and negotiate solutions as necessary.
Identifies organizational changes that must occur and coordinates the development and implementation of appropriate communication and training programs for impacted departments and staff to support the new system
Provides effective leadership and management of the project team, including project organizational planning, staff acquisition, and team development
Manages the acquisition process to obtain goods and services required for the project, such as procurement planning, RFP preparation, source selection, and contract negotiation and administration.
Provides leadership in the continual improvement of the organization that has either broad impacts across the organization or deep impacts within a particular business area. Brings new or best practices from the project management discipline back into the organization.
Off-hours work could be required as business demands dictate.
Carry and/or respond to cell phone calls for off-hours to monitor fixes to application problems
Some travel may be required.

Scope and Accountability:
Works under limited supervision, both independently and within a team environment. No direct supervisory responsibility, however, will be responsible for the guidance and mentoring of other team members.
Frequently, incumbent''s decisions and actions strongly impact the company''s revenue or operations. Decisions and actions have a significant impact on reputation, and/or customer satisfaction.
Incumbent makes recommendations, gives direction to others, and performs work independently or with minimal supervision.
Work under established guidelines and controls including Budget and Requisition guidelines and policies, Project Management Lifecycle (PMLC), Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Infrastructure guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or technical area generally required. Will accept any suitable equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
. Leadership and project management training are beneficial.
. PMP certification or equivalent preferred.
7 years of cross functional business experience including one or more of the following: technical project management, warehousing and/or transportation management, IT solutions development, customer relationships. Experience with vendor management desirable.
3 years of direct project management experience on medium to large IT projects (6 or more people for 9 or more months) working within a defined project management methodology and standard practices.
Solid written and verbal communication skills in customer settings and with internal senior management. Solid active listening, facilitation and presentation skills.
Working knowledge of basic business/accounting principles and transportation management.
Broad range of network and desktop knowledge, including experience with MS Office Suite.
Solid knowledge of IT software development life cycle methodologies and processes.
Strong project management skills. Well developed time management and prioritization skills.
Negotiation and budget management skills.
Demonstrated analytical capabilities. Experience managing customer expectations.
Ability to lead and motivate professionals to produce high quality results on time and within budget.
Ability to learn and understand functionality of multiple transportation and/or logistics related systems.
Ability to establish solid business relationships and work effectively with senior business and client or stakeholder contacts.
Ability to work and participate effectively in a dynamic self directed environment.
Ability to lead and mentor teammates to increase overall team capabilities. Partner with manager to facilitate dynamic and effective group management.
Ability to communicate business needs to technical people and to communicate and simplify complex technical information for non-technical people.
Ability to perform 24/7 on-call duties on a rotational basis.
