This is a Forester (Biometrician) position and is a member of the Vegetation Inventory Program team and will provide regional leadership and technical guidance in planning vegetation inventory and monitoring, sampling, and analysis of data using appropriate techniques.
The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.
USCITIZEN SSR US Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
Duties are listed at full performance level.
Conducts statistical analysis of data (such as regression analysis and analysis of variance) as needed by the Regional Forester, Directors, Regional Biometrician and other regional or Forest staff. Adapts use of existing statistical and database management packages for the most efficient methods of solving problems in the statistical analysis of physical vegetative data.
Provides expert technical advice for the collection, warehousing, analysis, and reporting of vegetative resource data for the region's vegetation inventory program. Reviews all vegetative data acquisition procedures to ensure consistent inventory methods are utilized which align with NFS corporate protocols and databases. Ensures efficient data entry to the vegetation inventory database and compilation of data to prepare it for analysis. In cooperation with Research, aids in the design of sampling procedures, and the design of techniques to evaluate changes of vegetative conditions over time, for the region's vegetation inventory program, and provides detailed written explanations and procedures.
Serves as a consultant and advisor to other resource groups dealing with various techniques suitable for the acquisition and analysis of vegetative conditions. Provides technical transfer and training, as needed, in NFS corporate inventory and analysis tools.

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above.
Bachelor''s Degree: forestry; or a related subject-matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work were in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas:
Management of Renewable Resources -- study of the science and art of managing renewable resources to attain desired results. Examples of creditable courses in this area include silviculture, forest management operations, timber management, wildland fire science or fire management, utilization of forest resources, forest regulation, recreational land management, watershed management, and wildlife or range habitat management.
Forest Biology -- study of the classification, distribution, characteristics, and identification of forest vegetation, and the interrelationships of living organisms to the forest environment. Examples of creditable courses in this area include dendrology, forest ecology, silvics, forest genetics, wood structure and properties, forest soils, forest entomology, and forest pathology.
Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory -- sampling, inventory, measurement, and analysis techniques as applied to a variety of forest resources. Examples of creditable courses include forest biometrics, forest mensuration, forest valuation, statistical analysis of forest resource data, renewable natural resources inventories and analysis, and photogrammetry or remote sensing.

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in forestry, or at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours were in forestry. The requirements for diversification of the 24 semester hours in forestry are the same as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED
Experience: In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled); one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master''s degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). Examples of specialized experience are: Worked under the direction of others to collect, analyze, and develop reports for vegetation data. Worked with other resource groups to determine various techniques suitable for the acquisition and analysis of vegetative conditions. Was a facilitator for the transfer of technical knowledge. Conducted training sessions using existing materials.
GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. Examples of specialized experience are: Provided technical expertise for the collection, analysis, and reporting of vegetation data. Served as a consultant and advisor to other resource groups dealing with various techniques suitable for the acquisition and analysis of vegetative conditions. Was a facilitator for the transfer of technical knowledge. Developed materials and conducted training sessions.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
