Work Unit Description
HRC10D is a combined epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) and clinical and translational research unit (CTRC). This unit will provide care to pediatric through geriatric research participants, as well as adolescent through geriatric epilepsy patients. This population will include but is not limited to:
Research Participants: Nursing care for volunteers participating in research protocols based on specific protocol requirements. All activities are carried out in accordance with established research protocols, the CTRC Nurse Practice Expectations of Care (NPEOC) for pediatrics and adults, and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and OHSU procedural requirements.
Specific procedures may include IV infusions of study drugs with frequent monitoring, pharmacokinetic studies requiring frequent blood, urine, and saliva sampling as well as obtaining ECG's and lab specimen processing. Specific competencies are moderate sedation, EKG acquisition, research specific information consent, and a general research pediatric competency.
EMU patients: Nursing care for patients with seizure disorders admitted for epilepsy monitoring, with ictal SPECT injection and foramen ovale placement, and neurological disorders of unknown etiologies. Care is based on the EMU NPEOC.
Overflow unit for hospitalized acute care medical and surgical adult patients, age 18 and older. Care is based on the Inpatient Adult Acute Care NPEOC.
Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range
This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement with the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA)
This is a resource (0.0) FTE position. Schedule will be day and evening shifts, variable based on need. Salary per ONA Contract. This position is located on the Marquam Hill campus.
Work at least 352 hours each fiscal year and at least 24 hours per four-week work schedule, provided work is available and the resource nurse is needed.

The OHSU registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics and meets the standards/expectations of a Professional Practice Model. Job Requirements

REQUIRED:
BSN Required.
Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license.
Must have graduated from a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited program, or National League for Nursing (NLN) accredited program for nurse educator roles.
Current BLS required at time of hire from the American Heart Association or the Military Training Network.
PREFERRED:
Clinical research nursing experience
Neuroscience nursing experience
Epilepsy Monitoring nursing experience
Certified Clinical Research Professionals (CCRP)
Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP)
Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN)
Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification

ORIENTATION:

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Unit admits a mix of patients, day patients, and ambulatory patients.
The unit is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week as needed.
Staff may be assigned to work in any OCTRI/CTRC location or other locations where OCTRI/CTRC approved studies are being conducted.
This may include locations outside of Marquam Hill campus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs independently.
Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.
Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids
The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation.
Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel.
