Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm; 1.0 FTE; Salary Range: $15.31 - $20.63/hour; Location: Varies.
Functions/Duties of Position
Maintain the front reception desk for the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Clinic at our Westside location 3 days per week. The major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Checking patients in and out of the Clinic, handling co pays, prepays, and deposits, scheduling of follow up appointments, ordering ancillaries as requested by managed care staff or providers, confirmation calls, maintaining departmental customer service standards and acting as back up managed care/scheduler.
This position will also, under the supervision of licensed, clinical practitioners, provide administrative support to the Department of Orthopaedics. This position will also serve as a Medical Assistant 2 days per week. This position is a key element in providing high level customer service to the Orthopaedic patient population. Special recognition is given to age-specific and educational needs of patients as well as the cultural backgrounds of our diverse patient population. This position supports the visions and goals of the Department in the pursuit of clinical competency, professional response to clinical needs of the patient, and the educational component of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.
Job Requirements
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Current BLS certification at hire.
Completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), including a practicum (externship) of at least 160 hours, OR successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
CMA certification upon hire or within six months of hire from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) OR completion of a formal medical services training program of the US Armed Forces AND certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT) (for military trained only) upon hire or within six months of hire.
Six months of work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume direct patient contact OR one year of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position OR successful completion of the PAS Trainee position.
Computer keyboarding skills with the ability to type 30-45 wpm.
Basic applied math skills, including calculations and conversions.
Electronic health care records skills.
Refills processing, chart review and phone triage skills.
Must have verifiable knowledge of Epic Cadence scheduling.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Experience and verifiable skills with answering multi-line phones.
Must be able to assist physicians/PA's in stabilizing patients for exams and/or procedures.
Must have demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality, and proven successful performance at past and present employers.
Must have demonstrable customer service skills, both over the phone and face to face.
Professional handling of patient confidentiality issues and ability to organize work priorities appropriately.
Must be detail oriented and highly accurate.
Must have verifiable telecommunication skills with diplomacy and efficiency.
Must be able to multi-task in a high volume situation.
Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
Ability to problem solve and retain pertinent information.
Must be able to recognize problems and pro-actively solve problems and issues.
Preferred:
Basic computer experience with database knowledge.
Knowledge of OHSU admission policies and PAS/authorization policies preferred.
Knowledge of PAS procedures and integrated care at OHSU preferred.
Completion of ASA training preferred.
Preference of Orthopaedics terminology.
Ability to assist/perform casting removal or application, splinting and traction.
