This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position. Schedule will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The salary range for this position is $17.25 - $23.11/hour. This position is located downtown Portland.
Functions/Duties of Position
This position is responsible for providing patients with an estimate of the cost of care for upcoming visits, procedures, and admissions. He/she will verify the patient's benefits and perform other standard managed care processes as needed in order to create an accurate estimate. She/he will contact the patient and explain/discuss the estimate with the patient. The hours for this position are M-F 8:30-5:00. This position is also responsible for providing guidance for other staff in the areas of patient liabilities, health care contract terms, complex patient referrals, and other managed care issues. This position will work closely with the HOS Intake center interacting with the Intake Coordinators, Managed Care Coordinators, and Financial Counselor to ensure patients receive optimal services related to their care at Oregon Health & Science University.
This position serves as a member of the Healthcare Operations Support department, which is responsible to support the systems and operations of ambulatory practices, professional service and hospital departments. The HOS Intake center supports the new patient scheduling and managed care processes for various clinics as defined within the department's scope. Workflows supported by the Healthcare Operations Support department include: Outpatient Registration, patient appointment scheduling, space and resource utilization, managed care, point of service collection, authorization, and referrals. The department supports its customers in workflows that start when the patient initially calls to obtain services, through the time that a charge is received by one of the billing entities.
The incumbent has extensive knowledge of Managed Care processes in the ambulatory setting. He/She is knowledgeable about the Epic system and current best practice referral workflows. The incumbent is able to provide support and backup to the HOS Intake center as needed for cross-coverage.
The incumbent will observe due care, objectivity and respect for confidentiality. All employees must keep confidential what they hear and what they see when handling, reviewing or observing: communications and records thereof (calls, emails, pages, faxes, etc.), data transmission, databases, or other forms of information. Confidentiality extends to the identities of the parties of communications, and even to the fact that the communication took place. When sharing information, consider whether the recipient has a true business need to know.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED:
One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of appointments and obtaining managed care authorizations.
The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures.
Candidates will have demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Basic computer skills including word processing.
Windows applications, on-line scheduling, and a preference for data-base skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Strong customer service orientation.
Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions.
At least one year of experience in a medical office setting in a managed care position, including high-volume scheduling of appointments, multi-line phone system, medical terminology and obtaining managed care authorizations.
The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of patient scheduling and managed care policies and procedures, as well as authorization and referral processes in EPIC.
Candidates will have demonstrated advanced patient scheduling and managed care user skills.
Experience with electronic scheduling, managed care websites and electronic medical record systems.
Advanced computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and Access, OHSU Epic skills and online resource use knowledge.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrated knowledge of managed care policies and procedures including appropriate timelines, paperwork, regulations, communication and follow-up are also required.
Demonstrated efficiency, problem solving and negotiation skills in resolving patient concerns and managed care related problems.
Must meet Department performance standards measuring efficiency, production, timeliness and accuracy. This will be reviewed on a regular basis both as a team and as an individual.
Ability to multi-task in a high volume situation.
Strong attention to detail and processes
Ability to work autonomously, with a high level of accuracy, speed and exhibit a willingness to work with deadlines.
PREFERRED:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
OHSU experience preferred
Excel skills and knowledge preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to share office space with other coworkers and able to multi-task in a high-volume environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Must be able to sit long periods of time, as well as spend 90% of time on telephone and computer usage.
