Tumor-host interactions in skin (non-melanoma squamous), and head & neck carcinomas (HNSCC) are increasingly recognized to play a critical role in fostering neoplastic progression, as well as response to therapy. We seek applications from junior scientists developing exciting research programs using relevant model systems addressing aspects of tumor microenvironment (TME) and tumor cell-extrinsic biology examining skin or HNSCC cancer development. Areas of particular interest include: Vascular biology (angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis); Tumor matrix metabolism and matrix regulation of tissue architecture and tumor development; TME- and organ-specificity of tumor development; Role of hypoxia in regulating neoplastic and stromal cell responses during tumor development; Role of immune cells and chronic inflammation in regulating neoplastic progression; Role of stem cells in modulating tumor development and/or regulating TME evolution; Role of bone-marrow-derived cells in establishing (pre)metastatic niches; Epigenetic determinants of tumor stroma composition; Role of microRNAs in regulating TME evolution. Recruited investigators will be expected to interact with a collaborative group of clinicians, basic scientists and clinician/scientists.
