This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
This is a part-time (0.4 FTE). Schedule will be Thursday from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The salary range for this position is $17.25 - $23.11/hour. This position is located on the Marquam Hill campus.
Functions/Duties of Position
The PAS Resource Specialist is responsible for handling all aspects of the authorization process for outpatient appointments. This will include gathering appropriate and correct patient demographics, financial information, confirming correct health coverage including managed care arrangements, financial screening, worker compensation status, and non-covered service status. This position works closely with referring providers for treatment authorizations. This position is responsible for informing patients about the billing mechanisms and their financial liability for Department services. This position serves as an insurance and coding resource for all business and clinical staff in the department.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED:
One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of appointments and obtaining managed care authorizations.
The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures.
Candidates will have demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Basic computer skills including word processing.
Windows applications, on-line scheduling, and a preference for data-base skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Strong customer service orientation.
Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions.
Complete successfully the required PAS initial training and core competency assessment before or during the trial service period.
Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities; ability to meet deadlines and urgent patient and system needs.
Ability to work independently.
Willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model.
Complete all required update modules.
Maintain core competencies, and demonstrate continuous application of these skills throughout the period of employment.

Thorough knowledge of managed care.
Basic computer keyboarding skills including typing of 30 - 45 wpm.
Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong relationship building skills with patients, health plans, providers, staff, management.
Exceptional customer service skills - both in-person and on the phone.
Exceptional interpersonal skills - able to resolve conflicts and to problem solve between parties.
Patient advocacy skills - evaluate patient concerns for timely resolution; sensitive to patient needs.
Additional Details
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Ability to sit for up to four hours at a time, & bend to reach files.
Ability to utilize standard computer and keyboard for a minimum of four hours at a time.
