The MA provides full range of assigned duties and support for the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center, Pediatric Diabetes, and Adult Endocrinology practices.
Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; 1.0 FTE; Salary Range: $15.78-21.15/hour; Location: Marquam Hill.
Functions/Duties of Position
The Medical Assistant provides a full range of Medical Assistant front office and back office duties and support as part of the medical care team, including MD, RN, PA, NP, residents, fellows, technicians, patients and families, as well as additional learners and professionals involved in the practice. This position supports the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center and Adult Endocrinology, and functions within the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice as defined by OHSU.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Primary Front Office Duties:
Front-line patient contact
Greeting and checking patients in and out
Answering phones
Sorting mail; faxing, and photocopying documents/records
Typing correspondence
Gathering patient information
Screening for financial eligibility
Confirming health care coverage
Scheduling appointments in person and over the phone
Clinical Duties:
Rooming
Collecting patient vital signs
Point of care testing
Documentation in EHR
Maintaining clinic flow
Disinfecting and stocking exam rooms
Assisting with procedures and treatments
Job Requirements
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent
Current BLS certification at hire
Completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), including a practicum (externship) of at least 160 hours OR successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces
CMA certification upon hire or within six months of hire from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) OR completion of a formal medical services training program of the US Armed Forces AND certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT) (for military trained only) upon hire or within six months of hire
Timing of certification requirement is determined by the hiring department
Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to meet deadlines and urgent patient and system needs
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities
Willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model
Basic applied math skills, including calculations and conversions
Basic computer skills
Electronic Medical Records skills
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of diverse customers in difficult situations
Skill in developing and maintaining professional relationships
Ability to prioritize work demands
Ability to interpret and follow policies, procedures, and protocols
Must have demonstrated regular and consistent attendance at work as reported by past employer
Preferred:
Six or more years of work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume direct patient contact in both front and back office
Epic EHR
Meter, Pump and sensor downloading experience preferred
Four years of experience working with an electronic medical record system
Prior experience in academic medical center
Prior experience providing administrative support
Knowledge of EpicCare and Cadence applications
Medical terminology knowledge
Bilingual
Current AAMA or AMT certification
