The Substitute Teacher is directly responsible for the daily care, education and recreation of children ages 6 weeks-10 years, for assisting in providing emergent, child-directed, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities for children, for initiating and fostering positive guidance and behavior management practices for children within various Volunteers of America Programs within the Children and Family Services Division

Requirements
This position requires at least one year of experience in a licensed childcare facility working with ages 6 weeks to 10 years of age, AA in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred. This position requires a reasonable combination of the following skills and abilities: strong interpersonal skills, effective classroom management and problem solving skills, positive verbal and written communications, cultural competency, good time management and organization, sense of humor, ability to quickly engage children, a nurturing approach when interacting with children and parents. Also, a reasonable combination of experience in the following areas: early childhood education, child care programs, social services, This position requires ability to lift and carry children up to fifty (50) pounds and have sufficient mobility to maintain a level of supervision both indoors and out to insure children's safety. Teachers must also be physically able to squat, sit on the floor, and reach items on high shelves.
All applicants must be enrolled in the Oregon's State Employment Department Criminal History Registry and obtain first aid/cpr and food handlers cards within the first 90 days of employment.
