Work Unit Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in this position will provide patient care in a multidisciplinary team model in the Adult Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) in collaboration with the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute.
The APP works in partnership with faculty physicians, fellows and residents to provide excellent clinical care and customer services to patients in the CVICU at OHSU. The APP works together with other faculty and OHSU leadership to promote OHSU's missions of patient care, teaching, research, and public service as well as the University's strategic goals to excel in patient safety, quality, cost-effective, and efficient care. The APP in this position will work cooperatively with nursing staff to provide education, care continuity, and complete quality improvement initiatives on an ongoing basis.
Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range
This is a Faculty position
0.5 FTE; Salary: $84,761 to $135,529 (at 1.0 FTE), Location: Marquam Hill
Functions/Duties of Position
The APP is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients in the CVICU under the direction of a critical care trained physician faculty. The care in the CVICU follows evidence-based guidelines and clinical pathways developed by our multidisciplinary team for patients treated in our CVICU. The APP will ensure that our patients receive high quality, safe and cost-effective care. The APP faculty participates and attends all relevant conferences and best practices committees. The APP faculty develops and presents nursing education related to care of patients in an ICU setting. The APP routinely participates in orientation and education of house staff and nursing unit staff on the care standards and protocols in the CVICU. Professional performance is delivered in a manner that is compliant with the regulations and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies (e.g. the AHA, SCCM, ASA, JCAHO, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, OHSU IRB, NIH, and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory agencies). All patients, research subjects, trainees, and co-workers are to be treated with dignity and respect. APP faculty will be responsible documenting all of their patient encounters in a timely manner in the electronic patient medical record and will be required to obtain knowledge and education related to appropriate documentation and coding in the ICU environment.
Job Requirements
Required:
Nurse Practitioner:
ANCC Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the specific area of specialization
Completion of a Master Degree in Nursing
Current registration with the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners as a licensed Nurse Practitioner
Current ACLS certification
Physician Assistant:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Training program
Current registration with the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners as a licensed Physician Assistant
Current ACLS certification
Preferred:
3-5 years previous experience in cardiac specialty or ICU, hospital ward or surgical/medical physician practice setting
Interest in learning advanced clinical skills required to practice in the ICU environment
Applicants with education directed at intensive care or Physician Assistant Post Graduate level education in ICU management
