The Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center (HSDHC) at OHSU offers comprehensive diabetes care and education to children and adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes.
The HSDHC mainly serves patients in Oregon and Washington who are newly diagnosed, require ongoing diabetes care, have chronic complications, or are hospitalized for diabetes.
Patients can access the Center by physician referral or provider request.

, RN Diabetes Educator, is a member of the multi-disciplinary team and has the primary responsibility of the delivery of appropriate, timely, and individualized diabetes care and education and support to pediatric patients, their families, and caregivers.
This position requires the ability to prioritize and assess the needs of patients over the phone, utilize resources available, knowledge of diabetes emergencies and other endocrinology disease states, and clinical judgment to determine the best intervention for the patients current status.
The RN Diabetes Educator provides diabetes care and education in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
In the outpatient setting, visits are prescheduled and offered in person, virtual, or via telephone, individually or in group settings.

Department Specific Working Conditions:

Exposure to and isolatable conditions for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize
Physical location is Physician Pavilion, Suite 140
Occasional long hours and weekend work to facilitate Diabetes Education at HSDHC, Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, or in the community.

The position does not maintain a private office; workspace is shared with other DCES.

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)
BLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Department
Specific Requirements:

Current AHA Healthcare BLS
Successful completion of the TTP program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.

2 or more years, within the last three years, experience working in the ambulatory setting with patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Knowledge of the ADCES 7-self-care behavior framework
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in call triage and case management Department Specific Preferences:

Minimum of 1-year experience as a certified insulin pump trainer.

National certification in Diabetes Care and Education is
Experience with motivational interviewing techniques
Washington State RN License is desired Orientation:

Unit onboarding and training 8-12 weeks.

Will include orientation to Professional Role classwork Bonus
