You will be responsible for designing various materials created by OHSU Brand Strategy and Marketing department in service to OHSU's missions.
Specifically, as the Designer, you are responsible for ensuring the consistent presentation of visual identity in various design tasks and throughout the design process, from conception through production.
Design production will apply to designing templates, designing with templates, and designing for one-off projects.
You will also have responsibility for managing projects, from the initial phases of identifying requirements through design iterations and finally through pre-production and working with printers or other vendors.
In addition, you will be assigned occasional responsibility for art directing photo and video shoots.
The role requires superb design and communication skills.
As the Designer, you must have significant experience in high-volume production roles but be able to provide creative concepts and direction for high-visibility external projects.
The ability to quickly understand and consistently apply brand guidelines is as essential as the technical skills necessary for success in the role.
Remote work is available, on-campus responsibilities as assigned.
Function/Duties of Position:
Graphic design production For assigned projects, designs and produces required materials.
Specific tasks may include:
Consistently applying OHSU brand, sub-brand, and co-brand (visual identity, logo) standards Producing designed templates for other projects Producing templated materials (e.
g.
, brochures, signs, flyers) Producing one-off projects (e.
g.
, reports, ads, publications) Producing digital assets, photography, illustrations, or videos Graphic design project management Manages stakeholders and creative workflow to ensure successful completion of graphic design projects.
Specific tasks may include:
Leading creative intake and brainstorming sessions Participating in meetings to solicit client requirements Providing design concepts for clients and stakeholders Establishing appropriate expectations for project deadlines Helping establish general guidelines for creative project execution Ensuring updates of project in appropriate software Coordinating estimates and quotes from freelancers/agencies Coordinating all interaction with print or other appropriate vendors Serving as de facto art director for video or photographic shoots Providing all appropriate pre-production checks Ensuring appropriate archiving of completed project assets Participating in efforts to continually improve creative team workflow and processes Brand management Supports consistent presentation of the OHSU visual identity, for OHSU principal branded, OHSU sub-brands, and OHSU co-branded materials.
Specific tasks may include:
Ensuring execution of visual identity, logo and cobranding standards Providing input for continual improvement and evolution of standards Participating in audits to identify branded assets Applying brand standards to templates and other materials Working with vendors and freelancers to ensure consistent application of standards Providing materials and training to other stakeholders to ensure consistent application of brand standards Teamwork Take joint responsibility for assigned projects and department goals.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Champion co-design and creative problem solving.
Support change management initiatives Collaborate on efforts to continuously improve workflows and processes that lead to better outcomes for the university.
Required
Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's or Associate degree in Graphics Arts may substitute for two years of experience.
OR A Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a minimum of 18-quarter (12 semesters) hours of graphic arts courses (transcripts must be submitted) may substitute for one year of experience.
Experience Six years of graphics arts production experience, two years of which included providing direct technical consultation and coordinating graphics design projects through to completion.
Knowledge & Skills Demonstrated understanding of offset printing processes.
Exceptional proficiency with design components of Adobe Creative Cloud:
Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat.
Ability to rapidly file appropriately for print, using existing templates and in support of brand standards.
Demonstrated attention to detail:
the ability to carefully render content into design, with an eye toward readability, accuracy, and brand, as well as aesthetics.
Ability to request accurate printing bids and create press-ready files:
color modes, bleeds, file types, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a high throughput, multi-project team environment.
Intermediate experience with project management software and concepts.
Ability to work within/clarify ambiguity.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience as a professional graphic designer in production-focused roles, with demonstrated experience managing bids, using project management software and working with offset print processes.
Experience enhancing and supporting brand adherence and standards in a large organization.
Proficiency with Adobe Premiere or other video editing software.
Ability to prepare for and art directing photo and video shoots.
Fluency with both Mac and PC.
Familiarity with web development process concepts.
Successful completion of project management, design workflow process management, or related certifications/trainings/workshops.
Additional Details:
Work schedule is generally within regular business hours, though the role will be required to staff special events outside of regular business hours.
