Job Description:
Opportunity Awaits, Apply Today! - Mineral Resource Geologist (Natural Resource Specialist 4)As the Mineral Resource Geologist, you will serve as the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries agency expert in mineral resource evaluation, inventory, and development.
This position is responsible for initiating, conducting, writing and project management of complex high-profile, short and long-term geologic fundamental and applied research investigations.
This work includes digital mapping and spatial database development and management, grant development for federally and other funded projects, as well as providing consultation and technical guidance to supervisors, peers, project staff and public.
As part of the Oregon Resilience Plan, this position advances resiliency through innovative communication techniques and technologies to inform the public and stakeholders of Oregon's unique and complex geology and geologic hazards.

What We Are Looking ForMinimum
Qualifications:
Three years of experience in geology, geography, or closely related physical science.
At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities; AND A Bachelor's degree in geology, geography, or closely related physical science or three additional years of related (pertinent) experience.
A Master's degree in geology, geography, or closely related physical science will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
A Doctorate degree in geology, geography, or closely related physical science will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
NOTE:
If you are using education to meet the minimum qualifications, a photocopy of transcripts will be requested prior to hire.
Desired Attributes:
Candidates who are the most competitive will also reflect the following:
Expert knowledge of geology, geochemistry, mineral resource evaluation, inventory, and development.
Expert knowledge of geographic information systems, experience using GIS applications, such as ESRI ArcGIS Desktop suite.
Knowledge of vertical and horizontal datum, mapping projections and geographic coordinate systems.
Demonstrated success and expert knowledge of project management and project management principles.
Experience in participating in decision making and cooperative interactions among staff and management.
Ability to present to material to technical, stakeholder and public audiences by clearly communicating controversial and complex scientific information in a constructive and helpful manner.
Preference StatementPreference will be given to those candidates who are an Oregon Registered Geologist or Oregon Certified Engineering Geologist or experience in an area of professional practice that overlaps with a Registered Geologist or Certified Engineering Geologist.
Current Oregon licensure is preferred, but those eligible to be licensed will also be considered.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range.
If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.
