Park District Manager

At Metro, the Parks and Nature team manages 18,000 acres of voter-protected land across greater Portland, with a focus on protecting clean water, restoring fish and wildlife habitat, and connecting people with nature close to home.
We are seeking a Park District Manager for Metro's fourteen historic cemeteries who will oversee the day-to-day facilities operations and maintenance services within the cemeteries to protect natural and cultural resources and ensure an exceptional visitor experience.

Function as subject-matter-expert for the developed parks, cemeteries, and marine facilities in your assigned portfolio.
Provide leadership and supervision for park staff you manage including hiring, developing work plans, and training and coaching to support long-term employees and newly hired staff.
Ensure safe, effective and efficient operations of sites to provide safe and welcoming spaces while offering opportunities to enjoy nature close to home.
Using trauma informed principals and an equity lens, support emergency response and enforcement of rules and regulations for assigned portfolio including oversite and communication with local public safety agencies, staff training and development, visitor engagement and collaboration with Metro Risk and Emergency Management teams.
Identify and administrate support programs intended to cultivate resilience and mental health for Park Operations staff related to critical incident management.
Contribute to the development and implementation of the division budget; oversee controls to ensure expenditures are within limits authorized through the budget for their portfolio.
Prioritize resource demands and make appropriate changes as needed.
Participate in internal and external meetings with community members and other stakeholders as needed, promote intergovernmental communication with local, state and federal agencies.
Collaborate with Metro subject matter experts on interactions and policy development with tribal sovereign governments or their members.

Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business management, parks and recreation, public administration, or any closely related field; AND Three years leading or supervising people in a park or cemetery setting; AND Two years project management experience in area of responsibly; OR We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.
Working schedule:
Position is considered to have a hybrid schedule, with one day per week available for teleworking, but most days will need to be onsite.
Will be required to work one weekend day May through September.
May need to work weekends or after-hours in response to emergencies or to support cemetery operations.
Working environment:
Duties are performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer terminal and in outdoor settings in the natural environment subject to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and variances in the terrain.
Required Ability to successfully pass a Metro criminal history background check.
Ability to successfully pass the Multnomah County Sheriff background check to obtain a Multnomah County Limited Commissioned Officer status.
A valid driver's license.
First Aid/CPR Certification within the first six months of employment (provided by Metro).
Background Check The candidate selected for the position must pass the Metro criminal history background check prior to being hired.
Upon completion of the probation period must pass the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office criminal history background check that includes, but not limited review of applicant's criminal, civil, driving and military to obtain Limited Commissioned Officer status.
Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude employment and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Driving Record Check The candidate selected for the position will need to pass a Driving Record check prior to being hired.
Speeding tickets do not necessarily preclude employment and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
