Our mission is to teach and frame science and nature-based education through a lens that centers and elevates the stories, ways of knowing, individual needs, and lived experiences of Black and Brown communities.
ELSO seeks to reduce the achievement gap in STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, Environment, Design) education and professions while creating a sense of belonging for Black and Brown people in the natural and built environments.
ELSO uses a multi-cultural approach to STEAMED education that is rooted in environmental justice and cultural history.
We are demonstrating a model for STEAMED education led by People of Color.
POSITION OVERVIEW ELSO Inc is hiring a Human Resources Generalist.
The role of the HR Generalist is to foster a positive, healthy working environment and ensure a reduction in risk to both the employer and employees.
This person must have knowledge of all government and labor legal reporting requirements such as the EEO laws, ADA laws, and FMLA.
The HR Generalist must stay up to date with employee tenure, benefits eligibility and apply skills and knowledge to help the organization achieve its mission.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, patient, understanding, approachable, courteous, identifies within a marginalized community and is passionate about ELSO Inc's mission.
They collaborate with the department heads to identify areas for culture enhancement and implement strategies for improvement.
This is a hybrid position required to work in the office two business days.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES Systemic Change Ethos (20%) Be in community with the internal programming team and project collaborators Learn and become a steward of ELSO Inc's mission, vision, values and program framework Maintain knowledge base of federal statutes and regulation in states in which ELSO Inc operates Be a resource for time tracking systems, best practice optimization, and staff education Be first line of contact in a restorative justice approach to conflict resolution Policies and records (35%) Management of HR policies and records Ensure employee personnel files have the most up to date copies of W-4 and I-9 Lead on revisions to the HR Manual Shepherd co-creation of individual policy drafts through levels of critique and approval Be a resource for the Board of Directors for Executive Director for a 360 review Provide verification of employment as requested Time, Payroll and Benefits (20%) Support staff in accessing benefits, tracking time, and processing payment of employees Coordinate internal approval of time worked and time off requests for Payroll Service Provider Run payroll Administer 401k benefits after processing payroll Vet and maintain relationships with vendors associated with payroll and benefits Download invoices and verify the payment status for each payroll and benefits vendor Hiring and onboarding (20%) Oversee the onboarding process for new staff, contractors and interns Prepare vetting timeline Co-creation of Job description with supervisors Collaborating with staff to post positions, monitor applicant pool, schedule interviews, field questions, and screen candidates Create orientation schedule Process background checks and all new hire paperwork then track via Docusign for full time, part time, and full time seasonal employees Support seasoned program leadership to mirror processes in intern recruitment Misc (5%) Teamwork and other duties as needed Take lead on legal correspondence to ensure legal documents, agreements and forms are all filed in a timely manner and shared with leadership and team members, as appropriate Coordinate with Executive Director and HOO on employee transitions within organization Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, etc.
Support maintenance of ELSO branding, supplies, office space, and administrative systems by understanding and following policies, processes, and procedures for supply organization, file storage and naming conventions, branding guidelines, communications logs, departmental budgets, etc.
Be friendly, accessible, and responsive to the public in all aspects of job duties, including communicating professionally and knowledgeably about ELSO Inc.
's mission, fundraising efforts, and programming.
Commit to following ELSO, Inc.
's approach to problem-solving both internally as well as with partners, contractors, volunteers, program participants, funders, donors, and the general public.
Participate in regular staff and planning meetings, including the annual in-person overnight staff retreat.
REPORTS No direct reports or supervisory capacity written into this role.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree 5

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
