General Purpose

Defines standards, plans, and detailed designs for highly complex networks. Scope includes large, customer-facing electric and gas utility networks, including Internet and local and wide area networks at several corporate IT data centers, electric and gas transmission and distribution facilities, electric generation facilities. Plan and coordinate cross-functional or cross-company work, change management, and resource availability. Monitor systems operations and adjusts operational plans accordingly. Act as a lead and/or technical resource to network engineer 1 and 2.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex data network plans for enterprise network upgrades and expansions. (25-30%)
  • Design and implementation of complex data systems, network configurations, and network architecture, including hardware and software technology, site locations, business continuity, disaster recovery, and integration of technologies. (25-35%)

Provide network engineering expert resources in these disciplines:

  • Core and WAN routing
  • Core switching
  • Network security and vulnerability management
  • Network diagnostics
  • Assess and resolve the most complex data network problems and incidents. (20-25%)
  • Review analyses and technical feasibility to develop data network deployment strategies. (5%)
  • Assess and review data network growth forecasts and to ensure that business needs are translated into network capacity requirements. (5%)
  • Lead and support efforts to resolve data network problems and incidents through root cause analysis and study of potential network deficits. (5%)
  • Serve on a rotating after-hours on-call to support major incidents.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned (5%)

Requirements

  • Bachelor s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically 4 years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor s degree. A minimum of 2 years additional directly related technical experience is required.)
  • Five years of experience Cisco data network engineering design, support and implementation activities in network routing (MPLS, BGP OSPF), switching, WAN strategy, quality of service, core switching.
  • Expert level analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, document, assess business impact, recommend cost effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of current network technologies, tools such as Wireshark and packet capture analysis, network applications, and telecom/network vendors
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills

    Preferences

    Skills and knowledge desired but not required:

    • Experience working with network-related compliance controls, evidence gathering, and audit support for NERC CIP
    • Experience with network configuration management systems such as BNA/TSNA.
    • Cisco Certification or equivalent experience at CCNP or CCIE level.
    • Cisco ACI experience, data center cloud, and/or virtual networking
    • Familiarity with firewalls, including Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco or ForcePoint/McAfee

    The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
