Job Description

An Underground Cable Splicer is a Journeyman Lineman who has had not less than two (2) years experience as an Assistant Cable Splicer and who has demonstrated his/her knowledge and abilities in underground network theory, underground system physical and electrical layout, and system maps, system construction and maintenance practices, equipment operation and application, and splicing and terminating PILC and solid dielectric cables.

Physical Demands

He/she shall be able to lay out and fabricate vault materials and to supervise Employees in installations in vaults and other related work sites.
He/she makes collections and service connects/disconnects, sets/removes single phase and 200 amp 3-phase self-contained meters, investigates customers service calls and complaints, advises customer and/or Company of equipment failure(s) and possible remedy, splices PILC and solid dielectric cables, inspects and maintains underground vaults and manholes and the equipment therein contained, notified customers of outages.

A Cable Splicer may supervise and work with an Assistant Cable Splicer, Journeyman Lineman, or Helper in the Lloyd Center underground and Downtown core area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of a formal training program for a Journeyman Lineman.
  • 2
    years of experience as an Assistant Cable Splicer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in underground network theory, system maps, system construction and maintenance practices, equipment operation and application, and splicing and terminating PILC and solid dielectric cables.

This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job.
The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
Physical Demands The job duties of Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force.
Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead.
Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.
